Come Learn More About This Fun After-School Program Open to all Students in Grades 5-8!

What is Drumline?

A drumline is a section of percussion instruments played as part of a marching ensemble or an
indoor competition ensemble. Each member plays a unique part. The battery drum line is a section
that marches as a group. The battery usually consists of snare drums, bass drums, tenor drums,
and cymbals.

The front ensemble (also called the pit) can include any percussion instrument. Typical front
ensembles include mallet instruments such as marimbas, xylophones, glockenspiels, vibraphones,
timpani, cymbals, concert bass drums, bongos, congas, cowbells, tambourines, gongs, tom-tom
drums, chimes, wind chimes, and in some cases drum sets.
